DIY Vintage Glam Maternity Shoot
When coming up with an idea for a maternity shoot, per usual, I planned for months only to decide that I wanted to do the shoot myself. I’ve always been a DIY kind of person. It could be the Leo in me that wants to have creative control, or it could be my more frugal side that just knew I could get the shot with my tripod and remote.
I fell in love with a vintage glam look after seeing Zendaya’s photoshoot for her collection with Tommy Hilfiger. Although her shoot was 70s theme, it inspired me to search through vintage editorial images and I came across some incredible imagery from the twenties, specifically from the Harlem Renaissance. Being that my baby boy will be born in 2020, it was so fitting to do a 20’s style shoot!
I went to Joann’s Fabric and purchased a large piece of navy crushed velvet to use as a backdrop. Luckily, I already had an art deco mirrored end table in gorgeous gold, along with a vintage gold trimmed mirror I picked up from a thrift store a few years ago. I searched Pinterest for ideas on staging the shoot, and after a few tries, my in-home studio was ready! I purchased the tripod, lighting and remote from Amazon, and you can purchase yours from my Amazon shop here.
In terms of styling for the shoot, I was out purchasing a few items from a local dollar store for my baby shower (post coming next week), and I found these cute pearl hair clips to style my hair with. You’d be surprised what you can find at a dollar store, don’t sleep on it! I decided to wear the same gold dress I planned to wear for my baby shower, along with a vintage silk duster I found at a thrift store last year. The print on the duster was gold and navy blue with a paisley print. I never really have an occasion to wear my wedding shoes, so this was the perfect look to pair them with.
Overall, I love the way everything turned out! Let me know what you think and you can check out my Art Deco Maternity Shoot board on Pinterest to see where I got my ideas.
