My Thoughts Today
I know it's been a while since I last posted, it has been crazy busy! Along with this blog, I work at a nonprofit, volunteer, write for an online fashion magazine, plan events, and act as a community organizer. And yes, the quote above is from the movie Baby Boy. Don't sleep on it!
Beyond all those things that fill my days, I've mentally been in a place of stillness. One thing you'll learn about me is that I like to do things with purpose. I could probably post everyday, but I really want to be intentional with what I put out there, and really make sure everything I do is authentic.
A few months ago, I saw a praying mantis while I was sitting out on my patio. I went online to find the picture I posted so I could see how far I've come in just a few months (it was back in April).
During my time of reflection (looking back) and projection (looking forward), I've realized my life is calling for three things: Courage, Discipline, and Sacrifice.
Courage.
Courage is the ability to do something that brings up fear within. Think about it. What would your life be like if you believed you were limitless? What would you do? Fear will tell you that the dream you have is too big, too out of reach. Fear will tell you that the things that have happened to you are the reason you cannot have a better life. Courage is what will help you live the life you deserve, regardless of your obstacles, environment, or mistakes.
Discipline.
Discipline follows courage. Discipline is doing the things that need to be done, even when you don't want to. I am a notoriously late person. I almost believe that God made me to be late. But lateness is usually designed by poor choices, and here I am telling on myself! This may be a small example, but discipline is a learned and practiced behavior. When you get the courage to do something, discipline is what will help you maintain and grow it.
Sacrifice.
This is the hard one. Sacrifice is giving up something that you want to keep in order to get something else. I know I need to sacrifice something, especially in terms of how I spend my time and money. I have not yet sacrificed because I have been so comfortable with the status quo. But you have to do things differently before things begin to change. That's the nature of it. Sacrifice will bring about change.
This is Femme Nouveau, in real life. It's about evolving and trusting the process. I know that many of you are also experiencing this season and the growing pains that come with it. We are not in the month of August, the eighth month of the year. Eight represents newness and rejuvenation, so now is the time!
